APPLICATION OVERVIEW
Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS)
High-Speed waveform acquisition for distributed measurements of temperature, strain and vibration.
GaGe Digitizers capture the electrical waveforms that help interrogator developers translate optical backscatter into measurements along the fiber.

Read the fiber through its backscattered light
A DFOS interrogator measures changes in returned light to infer conditions along the fiber. In pulse-based systems, return timing identifies position. A triggered digitizer records the detector waveform for processing.
Three common approaches to DFOS
Distributed Acoustic Sensing
DAS
Rayleigh backscatter for vibration and acoustic events
Distributed Temperature Sensing
DTS
Raman backscatter for temperature measurements
Distributed Strain Sensing
DSS
Brillouin-based strain and temperature sensing
Why the digitizer matters
Spatial sampling spacing and optical spacial resolution are different system parameters.
