FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Why is calibration of the 1510A necessary?

Even though today’s digital instruments are inherently more stable than their analog predecessors, their tolerances are much narrower than in the past. MTI’s 1510A’s accuracy is 0.05% which is one of the best in the industry. Reality however is that the accuracy of all electrical measuring devices degrades over time. This is typically caused by normal wear and tear. It can also be caused by electric or mechanical shock or even a hazardous environment (for example: high vibration or high moisture environments). The calibration process confirms adherence to the published specifications.

In other words: Calibrating your 1510A assures you that your measurements are accurate within the specification limits. Therefore, routine calibrations are your prescription for the continued health and optimal performance of your 1510A.

  • What are the risks of not regularly calibrating your 1510A?

Regulatory Requirement: There may be contractual or regulatory requirements stipulating a regular calibration regimen. The penalty for non-compliance could be fines, loss of business or even a legal liability. MTI offers N.I.S.T traceable certificate with our calibrations.
False pass/fail of equipment: If your 1510A is out of calibration, you may encounter false passes or false failures. False passes can cause you to certify unsafe products resulting in a product failure or even a financial or legal liability for your organization in addition to potential loss of creditability. False failures mean increased costs prompting unnecessary repair work.

  • When should you calibrate your 1510A?

Depending on the environment in which your 1510A is being used, it may degrade very quickly or over a long period of time. The bottom line is that, calibration improves the accuracy of the 1510A. Generally speaking here are the situations where calibration of the 1510A is recommended:

    • After any mechanical or electrical shock
    • If you notice inconsistent readouts or an abnormal behavior of the 1510A where there were none before
    • As part of your regular calibration regimen: We recommend that you calibrate your 1510A annually
